4 Habits that Stuck

Happy-new-year-best-wishes-wallpapers-3Happy New  Year!!!

For those who don’t know me, I experiment constantly in every aspect of my life. In poker, if I see world-class players having success with a specific play I rarely use, I will try it out and see what happens. If I hear about an amazing new breakthrough in nutrition from a trusted authority, I will give it a try. If I think something could benefit my life, I give it a shot. While most of these things eventually fall by the wayside, in honor of the New Year, I am going to share with you four habits I have stuck with over the long term. …

Studying poker with ICMizer

icmizer-pokerWhen I first started playing poker, I would spend 6 hours per day grinding sit n’ go’s and 4 hours reviewing my hands using a now-defunct program called Sit N’ Go Power Tools. Eventually I moved to multi-table tournaments and stopped studying push-fold situations because I thought I knew them perfectly.

While watching the 2015 WSOP Main Event  (I review 31 hands from the final table here),  I saw someone call an all-in in a situation where I thought it could easily be bad. I knew ICMizer was the go-to final table push-fold authority, so I downloaded the program and saw that the player in question should call or fold based almost entirely on the payout structure. …

Fun hand from a $1/$2 live cash game

cash 1I was asked by a large number of my students to get some experience playing the small stakes live games so I could make a training product to help them crush those specific games. I did exactly that, and Strategies for Beating Small Stakes Cash Games was born. I owe a huge amount of thanks to everyone who inspired me to make this book! Thank you for making it the #1 Best-Selling Poker book on Amazon!

Today I am going to share a hand with you from a $1/$2 live cash game at Borgata, in Atlantic City. My table will populated with mostly 50-70 year old recreational players who liked to limp with almost their entire range of playable hands. When someone raised, it was usually to 6 big blinds, which typically resulted in everyone folding. Talk about a great game! …

Almost the nuts on the river

littleoneThis hand is from the $1,111 buy-in Little One Drop event that took place during the 2015 World Series of Poker. This event attracted a huge field of 4,555 people. I managed to take 67th place for $7,215, which is always nice! When playing a tournament that consists of mostly amateur players, it is important to get full value when you are fortunate enough to flop a strong hand. Don’t let your opponent off the hook by slow playing. …

Three mistakes you don’t realize you are making

3tipsToday’s blog post was inspired by the mistakes I witnessed numerous amateur players commit on a regular basis during the WSOP. Most of these players were oblivious to the blunders they were making. These mistakes are difficult for amateurs to notice, especially those who play in the small or middle stake games, because the vast majority of the player pool exhibits these flaws. Once amateurs become enlightened to these errors, they will instantly be able to improve their strategies and mindset, allowing them to focus on other elements of the game. …

One Year Anniversary

oneIt is hard for me to believe, but the reincarnated website JonathanLittlePoker.com is one year old! Managing this site and making sure all of the content is produced and uploaded at the correct time is a ton of work. That being said, this website has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. Every day when I roll out of bed, I look forward to working on it and sharing my experiences with you.  …
