WPH #469: Patrik Antonius STUNS The ENTIRE Poker Table! [Old School vs New School]

In this weekly poker hand Jonathan covers a hand from a Triton Poker event played between two high stakes professionals: Charlie ‘Epiphany77’ Carrel & Patrik Antonius.

Charlie has been known to publicly state that he has never used a poker solver and relies very heavily on an exploitative approach to the game. This makes him extremely fun to watch as he takes actions that a Game Theory Optimal approach would not. This poker hand is no different as he opts to raise from the small blind with 84o!

Charlie Carrel is from England and has $9,600,000 in live tournament earnings with his biggest cash of $1,600,000 coming at this 2019 Triton series in a $50,000 tournament. He is known for relying on live reads to make decisions at the table.

Patrik Antonius is from Finland and has $13,800,000 in live tournament earnings. Patrik is known for being stoic at the table and near impossible to get a live read from.

Patrik Antonius went on to finish 17th in this event for $52,000, but Charlie Carrel did not manage to cash.

Triton Super High Roller Bowl London took place in 2019 from July 31st – August 8th. There were 7 events ranging from £25,000up to the main event of £1,050,000 (which is the largest ever buy-in for a single poker tournament)

This exciting poker hand history is from the Triton Super High Roller Bowl London $25,000 6-Handed Turbo tournament at Aspers Casino in Westfield Stratford City, London in 2019.

The poker hand starts with Charlie ‘Epiphany77’ Carrel raising from the small blind to 80,000 with 84o and Patrik Antonius in the big blind decides to defend with K6o. The flop comes Jd 9s 6h, and Carrel continues the aggression with a bet of 65,000. Antonius decides to call with his bottom pair.

The 5h turn slows Carrel down and he decides to check. Antonius checks behind. The river card is the 2d, and Carrel decides to put Antonius to the test for his tournament life and puts him all in. Antonius takes his time but eventually decides to call and is correct with his bottom pair and earns himself a well deserved double up!

WPH #468: Rampage Poker Is SHAKING!!!!!

#pokerstrategy #pokervlog #rampagepoker Rampage Poker finds himself in a huge spot in a private home game in California as he flops middle set and faces extreme aggression!

Jonathan discusses how you should always be aware of how many chips your opponent has in any given hand. Their relative stack size compared to yours and everyone else in the hand should dictate your strategy. Adjustments should be made depending on whether you are short or deep stacked.

It is important to recognize the bluffs that your opponent might have when deciding to slow play a monster hand. If they are a loose opponent who overbluffs you will find they will tend to have far less equity so you want to trap these opponents more.

Jonathan also teaches you different factors that you should consider when determining your bet size. On wet and dynamic boards you generally want to size up your bets to make sure that any draws that your opponents might have are not getting the correct mathematical price to call.

Ethan Yau, a.k.a Rampage, is a popular YouTuber and poker player. He has over 250,000 subscribers on YouTube and has won over $1,900,000 in tournament earnings, including a $900,000 win in a $25,000 WPT High Roller at the Wynn in 2022.

This epic high stakes poker cash game hand took place in a private home game in California. The action kicks off with with an early position raise to $300. Our hero, Rampage Poker, decides to make the easy call from the hijack with his pocket fives. Two other opponents opt to make the call as well.

Four players head to the Tc 5d 3d giving Rampage middle set on a wet and dynamic board. Action is checked to Rampage who decides to fire out a $500 bet into the $1,235 pot. The straddler decides to call but the original raiser now puts in a check raise to $2,500. Rampage has an easy call and the straddler decides to come along as well.

With $8,735 in the pot the three remaining players head to the turn card which is the 4c. Action checks to Rampage again and with such a wet board he does not want to give a free card and decides to bet around half pot for $4,500. The straddler decides to get out of the way but the original raiser shoves all-in for $15,000 total. Rampage makes the relatively easy call and finds himself up against a flush draw. They decide to run it twice, can Rampage scoop the entire $38,735 pot?

WPH #467: Why We Miss GARRETT ADELSTEIN…

#highstakespoker #pokerstrategy #hustlercasinolive When a poker hand has Garrett Adelstein involved you know that it’s going to be a fun watch. In this hand from the Hustler Casino Live stream you will see an epic tale of twists and turns as Garrett battles against French professional Gal, in a $180,000 pot!

Jonathan discusses how you should always fast play your strong value hands against opponent’s that do not like to fold. In deep stacked cash games make sure you raise frequently and on early streets to start building a pot to try and stack your opponents. If you are playing in shallower stacked tournaments you can opt to slow play at a higher frequency as you will still have plenty of opportunity to get all of the money in by the river.

Jonathan talks about overbet sizes and how you can often use a larger overbet size and still get calls from opponent’s that would have called the smaller overbet size. Size up slightly with value when you expect to get called a lot!

With a hand as strong as Gal’s he should be looking to keep Garrett’s range as wide as possible by just calling when facing the large bets. He does not want to raise which will force worse hands to fold and only hands that are beating his will continue.

Garrett Adelstein is known for his fearless aggression at the poker table. Does his opponent Gal Yifrach really consider folding on the river? What do you think? It feels like he would potentially fold any river that doesn’t give him a full house.

Garrett ‘GMan Poker’ Adelstein is a professional poker player from America, he is a regular at the Hustler Casino playing on the live stream and he is known to always have the biggest stack to cover every player at the poker table. Garrett has not played on any live stream since the J4 hand against Robbi back in October 2022.

Gal Yifrach is a professional poker player from America, he has 1 WSOP bracelet and over $2,000,000 in live tournament earnings and he has become a regular on this high stakes cash game stream.

WPH #466: Phil IVEY With A RARE Mistake [$123,000 BLUNDER!]

This is the clash of titans that we’ve all been waiting for! Poker legend Phil Ivey found himself heads up in a hand against the famous newcomer Eric Persson.

Jonathan discusses how you should always be aware of your opponents tendencies. If they are a loose aggressive player then you should play more cautiously with hands that cannot continue vs a raise but will still have good equity.

If you know that your opponent likes to bluff you should try and pot control with your hands that have good showdown equity and let them bluff into you. Floating with ace high on the turn is completely reasonable from Ivey as Persson is likely to overbluff in certain situations.

Jonathan is a big fan of the large size that Persson uses on the river as there are a lot of poker hands in Ivey’s range that might decide to look him up.

The hand starts with poker legend Phil Ivey raising to $5,400 on the button with AQs. Eric Persson decides to defend his straddle with J5s and they both head to the flop. The flop comes Js 7h 6c and Eric checks to the aggressor with his top pair. Ivey wisely decides to check behind with his two overcards and backdoor flush draw. The turn brings the 4h and now Eric also has an open-ended straight draw & flush draw to go with his top pair. He now takes the initiative and decides to bet $7,600 into the $12,600 pot. Ivey decides to call. Heading to the river there is $27,800 in the pot as the ten of hearts lands. Persson now decides to bet using a huge size of $29,600 with his flush. Ivey senses weakness and decides to raise to $110,000. Unfortunately for him his read was wrong as Eric was going nowhere and makes the call to win a huge $248,000 pot!

WPH #465: How To Play MARGINAL Poker Hands [WSOP Main Event]

In this video Jonathan sat down with James Romero to analyze a hand that James played during the $10,000 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event.

The hand starts with James opening under the gun with KJo 40bb effective. He finds two callers in the LJ (40bb) and BB (40bb). The flop is J98xdd and they both discuss how this flop can be dangerous as the LJ has a strong range on this board. James plays for a check call and after the big blind folds they take it heads up to the turn which is 4h. James checks again and the LJ sizes up and decides to bet 66% pot which would set up for about a 1 stack-to-pot (SPR) on the river if James were to make the call. Instead he decides to shove for 1.5x pot to deny equity to his opponent’s hands that are a pair/straight draw or hands that would have a tough time calling off their tournament life in the main event.

WPH #464: Brad Owen SCHOOLS This Amateur Poker Player!

Popular poker vlogger Brad Owen finds himself firing a 3 barrel bluff in this exciting poker hand from the Lodge Card Club. Will he get it through?

Jonathan discusses the merit of using certain poker hands to use as bluffs. Generally these are hands that have the opportunity to improve on future streets. He also talks about how you should be more cautious to raise with low valued draws when playing in extremely deep stacked cash games. If you end up getting a lot of action you are often going to be up against better draws that have you crushed. Jonathan would have preferred a slightly smaller turn bet size from Brad to set up for a larger river shove.

Brad Owen is a WPT ambassador and co-owner of The Lodge Card Club in Texas, he is a very successful YouTube poker vlogger for a few years having over 665,000 subscribers. Primarily a cash game player Brad has started playing more tournaments since the start of 2022, earning around $250,000 in cashes whilst his lifetime total live tournament winnings is only $298,000. His biggest cash of $99,000 came in December 2022 at the Wynn, Las Vegas in the $10,400 WPT Championship.

Ez is an American amateur poker player who plays at The Lodge occasionally but is willing to play all stakes from $2/$5 up to $200/$400 on the live poker stream.

They are playing the ‘nit game’ here (shown by the red buttons in front of the players still remaining in the game). It has the same rules as the well-known stand-up game where the last player to lose their nit button has to pay a fee to each player at the table. Brad, Big Tony and Ez still have their nit buttons in front of them in this poker hand.

This poker hand took place during a Lodge Live stream in Austin, Texas. Big Tony in under-the-gun +1 kicks off the action with a raise to $600 holding Q9cc. Brad Owen with AQo decides to 3bet to $3,000. EZ decides to cold call from the cutoff with 86dd and Big Tony decides to defend his initial raise. With $6,450 in the pot the flop brings Jd 6h 2d and Big Tony checks. Brad continues his aggression with a bet of $2,500 and Ez calls with his pair and flush draw. With the pot at $11,450 the turn reveals the Kc. Brad continues bluffing on a card that is great for his range by firing $8,000. EZ makes the easy call. The river bricks out for Ez’s flush draw as it comes the 7s. Brad fires the third barrel and moves all-in for $18,075. Ez ultimately decides to fold what is now only 3rd pair and Brad picks up the $27,450 with just ace high!
