WPH #487: Rampage Poker With ACES In A HORRIBLE Spot!

Cyber Week is upon us with up to 71% off between Nov 27 & Dec 4! DON’T miss out!

PokerCoaching.com/CyberWeek

It’s always a dream spot when you are facing a 5-bet and have pocket aces! This is exactly the situation that popular poker vlogger Rampage Poker found himself in at the Thunder Valley Casino against his good friend and fellow poker professional Stephen Song. Can Rampage find a way to get maximum value and stack Song? Find out in this video!

Jonathan’s new book: 100 Essential Tips To Master No-Limit Hold’em is now available! You can get it here:

Jonathan discusses the differences in your raise sizes preflop depending on your stack depth and position. As Rampage is extremely deep with the button he could have raised even larger to help reduce the stack to pot ratio (SPR) which would make it easier for Rampage to find a way to get all of the money in by the river (or even earlier!)

When Rampage decides to use a small bet size on the turn after the flop has checked through he is essentially saying that he now has the range advantage and can start betting for thin value but also with some bluffs. With Song just calling on the turn his range is looking more like a hand that is pocket kings or ace king. He will also have some slow played traps like pocket queens or pocket jacks but these will make up a smaller part of his range due to there being fewer combinations of these hands compared to kings or ace king.

Jonathan covers an interesting topic on how you should always look to use the largest ‘small size’ when betting for value that your opponent will still call. He thinks that Song would have called $2,000 on the turn rather than just $1,500 so this could have been a spot that Rampage could have earnt himself an extra $500!

Ethan Yau, a.k.a Rampage, is a popular YouTuber and poker player. He has over 264,000 subscribers on YouTube and has won over $2,100,000 in tournament earnings, including a $900,000 win in a December 2022 WPT High Roller at the Wynn.

Rampage’s opponent in the cutoff is his friend Stephen Song. Song is a professional poker player from the U.S.A. He has $5,519,065 in live tournament earnings putting him 295th in the all-time money list.

Rampage mentions he was at the Thunder Valley Casino for a RunGood poker series. This series brought about this large cash game. Rampage cashed one event in this series which was the $2,500 No Limit Hold’em – Main Event. He came 31st for $5,565.

The Rungood poker series (RGPS) took place between 13 – 31 July 2023 and had 17 events with buy-ins ranging from $150 to the $2,500 Main Event.

Thunder Valley Casino is located in Sacramento California and offers poker, table games, and slots. There is also a hotel and a golf course linked to the property.

🃏 Preflop: In this high-stakes cash game with blinds at $10/$25/$50, action kicks off with Stephen Song in the cutoff who makes a standard raise to $150. Villain 1 on the button throws in a 3-bet to $500, but the real fireworks begin when our Ethan ‘Rampage Poker’ Yau in the small blind joins the fray with a cold 4-bet to $1,500. Song responds with a rare 5-bet to $3,000, and after Villain 1 folds, Rampage makes the call with his pocket aces.

🔥 The Flop: Qh Qc Jd The flop is not an ideal one for our hero as he now loses to a lot of the hands that Song may have chose to 5-bet with. Rampage checks and Song interestingly decides to check behind.

🌀 The Turn: 9h On the turn Rampage fires a $1,500 bet, and Song makes the call, setting the stage for a climactic river card.

🔵 The River: 8s On the river, Rampage decides to opt for a thin value block bet size and continues his aggression with a $1,800 bet, prompting Stephen to fold.

WPH #486: Alan Keating – Poker GENIUS or PUNTER?????

Cyber Week is upon us with up to 71% off between Nov 27 & Dec 4! DON’T miss out! https://pokercoaching.com/cyberweek

The Million Dollar Game hosted by Hustler Casino Live was such a treat to all poker fans! Watching some of the splashiest high stakes players battle it out with over $1,000,000 in most of their stacks! This weekly poker hand will show you exactly why it was such an entertaining stream to watch!

Jonathan’s new book: 100 Essential Tips To Master No-Limit Hold’em is now available! You can get it here: Click Here Click Here

Jonathan Little does not recommend calling an early position raise with 75o, but if you are extremely rich and are having fun then who cares! On the flop Yong decides to use a rather large bet size (around 80% of the pot) which is not often seen multiway on such dry flops. Having said that, as the effective stack gets deeper it becomes more reasonable to use larger bet sizes in order to get stacks in with your strongest hands.

Alan Keating opts for a small raise size which actually makes a lot of sense when facing such a large bet and on a board that you have a lot of the effective nut hands. Also Keating is likely aware that Rob Yong will likely be betting too frequently on this board which means that his range will be much wider and will include a lot of bluffs.

The turn card is generally quite bad for Keating’s range that might opt to use a small raise size on the flop. Lots of tens would raise as well as some draws, so when he decides to continue for a large bet size on the turn he is essentially narrowing his range to nutted hands which is quite hard to have.

Jonathan believes that on the 5h river that Keating has to continue bluffing as some of his bluffs will have contained a 2 and it is unlikely that Yong will have a 2 in his range.

Alan Keating is a well known cash game player often playing in the biggest cash games live and private games around the world, he has become more of a regular on the Hustler Casino Live stream.

Rob Yong is an English poker player, and the owner of Dusk To Dawn Poker Club which is the largest poker club in the United Kingdom, and second biggest in Europe. Rob has over $1,000,000 in live tournament earnings, but he is mainly a cash game player having played in many of the biggest games around the world. Rob is known for being very talkative at the table.

This hand took place during the highly anticipated Million Dollar Cash Game on the Hustler Casino Live stream. It had an array of professionals and businessmen competing against one another. Some of the most well-known poker players that played in this game were: Doug Polk, Tom Dwan, Tony G, Rampage, Wesley, Stanley Tang, Nik Airball, Huss, J.R., Double M, Blank Check Ben, Brandon Steven, Charles and Rob Yong.

🃏 Preflop: In this exciting poker hand, Blank Check Ben opens under the gun +1 (UTG+1) with the modest 2d2c. Rob, on the button (BTN), makes a questionable call with 7d5c, and Keating defends his straddle with 96hh.

🌟 The Flop: Td 4h 3s On the flop Keating checks to the preflop aggressor. Ben who has completely missed his set decides to slow down and opts to check as well. Rob seizes the opportunity with his gutshot straight draw and bets $14,000. Keating, however, decides to make a rather ambitious move, raising it to $40,000 with no pair but backdoor flush & straight draws. Ben finds the easy fold & Rob decides to splash around and calls the raise.

🌀 The Turn: Ac The turn card brings the Ac into play which does not change the strength of either players hand. Keating doesn’t back down & follows through with his story by placing a $70,000 bet. Rob, now has a double belly-buster & makes the call, bringing the pot to a mouth watering $239,000.

🔵 The River: 5h The river card now actually gives Yong a pair, albeit a very weak one. It also opens up a straight if any player were to have 2 which is unlikely the way this poker hand has currently played out. Keating fires his triple barrel bluff, betting $160,000. Can Yong find a crazy hero call to take down over half a million dollars? Watch this poker video to find out!

WPH #485: Daniel Negreanu Tries To OWN Me!!!!

Cyber Week is upon us with up to 71% off between Nov 27 & Dec 4! DON’T miss out! https://pokercoaching.com/cyberweek

In today’s Weekly Poker Hand Jonathan analyzes a hand that he played himself against poker legend Daniel ‘KidPoker’ Negreanu during a Poker Masters final table!

Jonathan believes that Negreanu’s raise preflop with J3hh is too loose, especially considering the payout implications and the fact that there are two shorter stacks than him. These two shorter stacks are also PokerCoaching coaches – Brock Wilson & Justin Saliba! Having said that Jonathan recognizes that Negreanu is going to be more likely to be playing for the win as he will be less concerned about the payout implications.

As Daniel Negreanu only has 16 big blinds before the flop there are a lot of hands containing an ace that he should just shove, so when the flop comes ace high Jonathan can discount a lot of hands that beat his middle pair which makes it an easy call for him.

Daniel Negreanu is 5th on the all time money list with over $51,300,000 in total live earnings & has 6 WSOP bracelets. He is 49 years old and originally from Toronto, Canada but now resides in Las Vegas, U.S.A. Negreanu grew up playing primarily cash games and has appeared on many popular poker shows such as High Stakes Poker, Poker After Dark, and High Stakes Duel (he won the most recent season beating Eric Persson and Doug Polk and claiming $200,000 and the championship belt).

Jonathan Little is 175th on the all time money list with over $8,000,000 in total live earnings & has 2 WPT titles. Jonathan is a 38 year old professional poker player from the U.S.A. He is also the founder of PokerCoaching.com!

Jonathan Little came 2nd in this event for $154,700, Daniel Negreanu came 6th for $54,600

The 2023 Poker Masters was the 8th season of the Poker Masters. It took place from September 14th-26th 2023, from the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. There were 10 events on the schedule and all the events were No-Limit Hold’em. Buy-ins ranged from $10,000 to the $50,000 Main Event.

This hand took place during a $10,000 2023 Poker Masters Event in the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas! Our hero Jonathan Little was facing off against poker legend Daniel Negreanu on this final table.

🃏 Preflop: The action begins with Negreanu deciding to raise with J3hh on the button with just 16 big blinds behind. Jonathan Little makes the easy call from the big blind with T9o and both players head to the flop.

💥 The Flop: Ac 9c 5d The flop gives Little middle pair and he opts to check to Negreanu, the preflop aggressor. Negreanu continues to tell his story of strength with a bet of 75,000 and Little makes the easy call.

🔥 The Turn: Ad The Ace on the turn pairs the board and Little checks once again. Negreanu doesn’t slow down and fires out another bet for 175,000. Little still doesn’t believe the story that Negreanu is trying to tell and makes the call once again.

🚀 The River: 6s The river card changes nothing with regards to the strength of both players hands. Little checks for a final time and Negreanu fires the 3rd and final barrell, practically putting himself all in with just jack high! Can Jonathan Little sniff out the bluff and make a great hero call? Watch the video to find out!

WPH #483: Rampage Poker With ACES In A HORRIBLE Spot!

Have you ever wanted to know how to play draws perfectly? Well look no further as Jonathan Little gives you everything that you will need to play straight draws & flush draws PERFECTLY!

It is important to remember that all flush draws and straight draws do NOT have the same value! Generally draws that have overcards to the board will have more equity, especially if your opponent has a marginal holding like a pair.

Flush & Straight draws are incredibly profitable hands if you play them correctly. Here are 3 quick tips to help you make the best possible decision when you have a draw:

1. Raise more often against small bets 2. Raise more often from out of position 3. Do NOT raise high equity draws that would have to fold to a re-raise

🔥 RAISE MORE OFTEN AGAINST SMALL BETS 🔥

Small bets will indicate frequent bets, this means that your opponent will be betting with a very wide range that cannot often face too much aggression. For this reason you should raise frequently to apply pressure to your opponent’s marginal hands. On the flip side, you should raise less often against large bets and you should actually fold more often when facing a larger bet size, especially with your worst draws.

🔥 RAISE MORE OFTEN FROM OUT OF POSITION 🔥

From in position, you will realize your equity well. From out of position, you won’t! Position is power in poker! Imagine playing a game of rock/papper/scissors and always getting to act last. You would win every single time! Poker isn’t as simple as this but it gives you a good idea on the importance of position.

🔥 Do NOT Raise/Fold Your High Equity Draws 🔥

Draws with decent equity that would have to fold to an all-in usually do not raise. It is a disaster when you have a lot of equity but are forced to fold to a huge raise size as you will often not be getting the correct price to mathematically call.
