Have you ever been in a situation at the poker table where you just have no idea what you are meant to do? Well, that occasionally happens to professional poker players, too! While playing in a cash game at The Wynn in Las Vegas, Rampage Poker finds himself in a confusing situation when facing a min-raise on the turn whilst holding trips. Should he call, raise, or fold? He doesn’t know what to do! What would you do?

When you are out of position and playing very deep-stacked poker, you should use larger raise sizes when deciding to 3-bet your opponents. Playing out of position is extremely disadvantageous in poker as your opponent will have much more information about the hand than you will. If you were to play a game of rock, paper, scissors and you had the option to pick last. Who would win that game? You! By using a larger raise size you disincentivize your opponent in calling whilst it also helps you narrow their range when they do call. When the stacks become shallower you then start to use smaller 3-bet sizes out of position since the stack-to-pot ratio (SPR) is much lower than it would be in a deep stacked game.

Heads-up poker is the purest form of our beautiful game & there is nowhere to hide! There can only be one winner and one loser! In this heads-up battle Nikita Luther takes on David Williams during PokerGO’s Game of Gold in South Korea. Luther finds herself on the river with a busted draw. It looks like she doesn’t have the courage to fire out a bluff as she decides to check. Surely she has now waved the white flag to Williams to value bet his pair of jacks?

In full-ring games, when you defend from the big blind against a raise and then call a continuation bet on the flop, it’s often a solid strategy to have a leading range on turns that pair the middle or bottom card. These cards are more likely to be a part of your range than your opponent’s, so you can go into the leveling war. This allows you to mix in leads with both your value hands and your bluffs.

David Williams is a professional poker player from America. He has over $9,300,000 in live tournament earnings putting him in the top 150 on the all-time money list. His largest cash of $3,500,000 came from the 2004 WSOP Main Event where he narrowly lost out on his first bracelet to Greg Raymer ‘Fossilman’. The 3 players on the losing team from the losers bracket would be eliminated from the show.

The final six players competed in a winner-take-all format Sit & Go (SNG). This was unique as it meant there was no Independent Chip Model (ICM) pressure on any of the poker players.

💣 Turn – 7h: The board-pairing 7 of diamonds doesn’t improve Luther’s hand. However, she decides to donk lead for 70,000 since she is aware that she has more sevens in her range. Williams who will also be aware of this, just calls with his top pair and they head to the river.

🌊 River – 4d: The river completes a few possible front door straight draws but not the one Luther has. She checks, seemingly content to give up on her bluff. Williams now decides to go for some thin value and bets 150,000 with his pair of jacks. It looks like WIlliams is going to take down the hand right now, right? 💸 Flop – Qd 6h 3d: Bulldog checks with his middle pair. Tesla also checks after flopping top pair and a backdoor flush draw. Doug flops a pair of queens himself with a better kicker and a stronger backdoor flush draw. He continuation bets for $2,500 and receives a call from Bulldog. Tesla then check-raises to $10,000. Doug calls with the best hand before Bulldog throws away his pair of sixes as two of them head to the turn.

💣 Turn – 8d: The 8 of diamonds on the turn brings in the flush and gives both players a backdoor flush draw. Tesla continues his aggression from the flop by firing out a pot-sized bet of $30,000. Doug calls as they both see a river.

🌊 River – 7d: A fourth diamond appears on the river, giving both players their flush. Tesla fires out again, this time for $75,000 with the worst hand. As the preflop raiser, you should be careful with continuation betting on medium connected boards when playing against the big blind. Their range will hit that board more frequently which means you will face a higher amount of aggression through check-raises. This puts your holdings that have over cards in a tricky situation and will often mean you need to fold a decent amount of equity.

He has 1 World Series Of Poker (WSOP) bracelet from the 2021 $25,000 Heads-Up Championship event. He was also a GGPoker Ambassador for almost 3 years up until 2024.

David Williams is a professional poker player from America. He has over $9,300,000 in live tournament earnings putting him in the top 140 on the all-time money list. His largest cash of $3,500,000 came from the 2004 WSOP Main Event where he narrowly lost out on his first bracelet as he lost heads-up to Greg Raymer ‘Fossilman’. Two years later he captured his first WSOP bracelet after winning the 2006 $1,500 7 Card Stud event for $163,118.

Filmed in Seoul, South Korea and hosted by experienced poker broadcaster Ali Nejad, Game of Gold combines high stakes poker with survival reality TV. In Round 1, a four-tier Sit & Go poker format, each team (spades, diamonds, hearts, and clubs) put a poker player into a separate round of four-handed poker action, with Game of Gold coins on offer for finishing first, second, third, or fourth. The rounds increased in the amount of coins that were offered, until the fourth ‘mystery’ round, where no-one knew how many coins were on offer. The team with the least Game of Gold coins at the end of all four Sit & Go’s would be eliminated.

The final six players competed in a winner-take-all format Sit & Go (SNG). This was unique as it meant there was no Independent Chip Model (ICM) pressure on any of the poker players.

🔍 Preflop: David Williams raises to 160,000 from the button with KJo. After the small blind folds, Jason Koon defends from the big blind with a dominated JTo, and they head to the flop.

💸 Flop – 8s 7c 3h: Koon flops two overcards and a gutshot straight draw. He checks from out of position and Williams fires a continuation bet of 150,000 with his two broadway cards and backdoor straight draw. Koon calls as they both head to the turn.

💣 Turn – Js: The J of spades on the turn is disastrous for Koon as he has hit top pair but is out-kicked by Williams. He checks and Williams decides to exercise some pot control by checking back.

🌊 River – Kh: The king of hearts on the river is an overcard to Koon’s pair of jacks. However, this doesn’t scare him as he takes the betting lead and fires out a bet of 480,000. Williams has improved to a disguised backdoor top two pair. But what will the WSOP Main Event runner-up do? Fold? Surely not! Be a nit and just call, or put in the raise?
