Jesse Lonis and Shannon Shorr get into a battle of the blinds during an event at the 2024 U.S. Poker Open at the PokerGo Studio in Las Vegas. Shorr puts Lonis all-in on the river and after some thought Lonis reaches for his timebank chips. To his horror, he can’t seem to find them anywhere! They’ve gone missing and he has only 10 seconds left to make a decision for his tournament life or his cards will be automatically folded!

You shouldn’t always raise your strong hands such as broadway cards from the small blind when it folds to you. You should mix between limping and raising, as this helps you maintain a balanced range. By doing so, your opponent will not be able to exploit your limps, as your range of limping from the small blind will not just contain weak ones but also some strong hands.

Jesse Lonis has over $10,600,00 in live tournament earnings putting him in the top 150 on the all-time money list. He has two World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets. The first came from a 2022 $1,000 No Limit Hold’em (NLHE) 6-Max (Online Bracelet Event) where he won $73,371. The second was from the 2023 $50,000 Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) High Roller 8-Max, where he won $2,303,017, this is his biggest cash to date.

Shannon Shorr ‘basebal1b’ ‘aulophobia’ has over $13,300,000 in live tournament earnings putting him in the top 100 on the all time money list. He has been a regular in tournaments and cash games of all stakes for over 15 years. He was also Jonathan Little’s best man at his wedding & is now a coach for PokerCoaching.com!

🔍 Preflop:
In a battle of the blinds, Jesse Lonis limps in from the small blind with KTo. Shannon Shorr raises to 42,000 from the big blind with pocket nines and Lonis calls.

💸 Flop – Kc 9c 4s:
Lonis checks from out of position after flopping top pair with a pair of kings, along with a backdoor straight draw and a backdoor flush draw. Shorr, who flops the second nuts with a set of nines, fires a continuation bet of 28,000. Lonis calls without knowing that he needs a miracle runner-runner to make the best hand.

💣 Turn – Js:
The J of spades on the turn brings in a backdoor flush draw. Lonis improves to a gutshot straight draw to broadway in addition to his top pair. He checks and faces a bet of 120,000 from Shorr, who holds three nines. Lonis makes the call as they both head to the river.

🌊 River – 6s:
The backdoor flush completes with the 6 of spades on the river. Lonis checks for the third and final time holding top pair and a straight blocker. Shorr, unfazed by the potential straight or flush, bets 259,000, enough to put Lonis all-in. Lonis goes deep into the tank and after some time he realizes that he’s missing all of his precious timebanks. Will this impact his decision to call or fold? You’ll have to watch the full poker video to find out what happens!
