2016 World Poker Tour Championship Vlog + GPL Match 1

A LOT has happened in the last few weeks. I won my first Global Poker League match, cashed for $58,000 in a World Poker Tour event, and played in the WPT Tournament of Champions. On top of that, two of my friends won events for $650,000 each. Finally, I released my new interactive poker training site, PokerCoaching.com. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Here is my video blog from my trip to Florida for the WPT.

Here is the replay of my first Global Poker League match. The play starts 36 minutes into the video.

Thanks for taking the time to share in my journey. Please take some time to check out PokerCoaching.com. I am confident it will help you take your game to the next level. Please let me know what you think in the comments section below.Be sure to check back next week for another educational blog post.

  1. Hello Jonathan,
I was the player to your right in the Hard Rock $3500 with the A-8. Lucky turn… I was close to go all in on your 10k river re-raise but your raise pre flop UTG might have been with AA and I don’t think you would have call a bet for all your chips anyway…
I have a question regarding a hand I played a few months ago vs Chino Rheem in a $1,650 bounty. Start of the tourney blinds 100-200 and the table keeps talking about a pot a few minutes prior where a player folded the nut flush vs a river boat on a big all in bet.. I raise 2.5x with AQ off in 3rd position, calls from Chino and other player. Flop Qc8c3h. I bet 400, Chino bet 1200, other player fold. I called with my stack around 14k and Chino a tiny bit more. turn is (Qc8c3h) Js and I check. Chino bet 2k. Right now I am putting him on a flush draw, possible 9c10c… River is (Qc8c3hJs) Qs. I checked and Chino goes instantly (but like INSTANTLY) all in… It is very early in the tourney but I still put him on a missed club draw since I don’t think he will do that with a straight… I tanked for a while and make the call putting my tourney at risk.
    What do you think?

    1. It was nice playing with you. I agree with your A8 play for the reasons you stated.
The Chino hand is tough because he randomly goes off. I simply don’t fold anything versus him, assuming he is in a hyper aggressive mode, which it sounds like he was. That being said, he played generally TAG in the 10k he won.

  2. I thought the same thing and I did make the call… A few regulars said they would not have put all their chips at risk at this level but it was also part of my thought process that Mr Rheem was thinking like that as well about me… He ended up with 88 and boat up on the river (Qc8c3hJsQs). Glad to hear that if you think you are making the good call your tournament life shall not interfere with your play.
Thanks again for your numerous blogs and Q&A!

  3. I hope you guys were rooting for the Islanders! Great series. Isles first playoff win in 23 years. (Yeah that was some bad streak for a once great team). Multiple overtime games and Tavares emerges as one of he NHL’s elite. I was at two of the games in Brooklyn – but I must concede not in as good seats so you guys must have had awesome view of the action. Hope the Isles keep it going against Tampa.

  4. Jonathan,

Enjoyed your Vlog, especially your discussing some of the hands in your tournaments. I’m retired and live in Vegas, hope to see you in the next month or so at the world series. If I’m lucky maybe i’ll get to play in the 10K event this year and do a bit better then the last time I played in 2009 🙂
